Questions and answers

Which laser cutters does PrintCut work with?

Any laser cutter whose software opens SVG or DXF files. That includes Glowforge, xTool and machines run with LightBurn. GRBL and Marlin machines can take G-code straight from PrintCut.

Which materials can I use?

Plywood, MDF, acrylic and other flat sheet material. Enter your material thickness and your laser's kerf, and the joints are drawn to fit.

Is PrintCut free?

Creating an account is free, and so are many templates. Some templates are marked Pro or Premium; how those are priced will be announced later.

Do I need to install anything?

No. PrintCut runs in your web browser on a computer, and your projects are saved to your account.

Which file formats can I bring in?

SVG, PDF, DXF and EPS files, and PNG or JPG pictures, which are traced into cut lines. Text is turned into outlines.

Which file formats can I export?

SVG with colour-coded layers, DXF, and G-code for GRBL and Marlin machines, plus a project file to back up your design. You can also make still pictures, short clips, and character and spec sheets.

Can I sell what I make?

Yes, what you make from your own designs is yours to sell. Templates you send in to us come with their own terms, which you can read when you submit one.

How does sharing work?

You can make a link to a project. Anyone with the link sees it in 3D, and can sign in to edit their own copy. Your original is never changed, and you can turn the link off at any time.

How do I submit a template?

Log in, choose Submit a template in the app, and send your design with a picture. A person reviews it. If it is published, your name is shown as its creator.

Is it suitable for schools and makerspaces?

Yes. It needs nothing installed, and the defaults are safe for beginners. Students can see the finished piece in 3D before any material is cut.
